FOURTH
SUNDAY ARTISTS' RECEPTION JANUARY 27 2-4 PM
FROM
BARBARA AND JACKIE
The
Gallery is off to a great start with new members coming on
board. We know everyone will
welcome them and appreciate their diversity of art
work.
The
new hours for the Gallery are so welcome!
Everyone gave a silent cheer!
The new hours until March 1 are Morning shift 10:00 until 1:30, and
Afternoon 1:30 until 5:00.
The
Gallery Steering Committee met on Wednesday, January 9th, and discussed several items on which the
General Membership will have to vote.
We hope you will all attend the General Meeting on Sunday, January 20 at 2:30 PM
at the Gallery.
The
Gallery is firmly footed in standards and expectations
as stated in the By-Laws, Exhibition Guidelines and duties of Artwork,
Communication, Management and Physical Plant Committees. Now we must be creative in moving the
Cooperative toward new successes.
In
reading information about Cooperative businesses, the Gallery is found to be in line with good business practices in the
following ways:
1)
Our
physical appearance is clean, uncluttered and a
constant work in progress.
Improvements are ongoing evolving from a gallery plan that includes
improved lighting, more exhibit space and build-in working spaces. Members have contributed time, materials
and labor to improve the gallery.
Thanks to the Physical Plant Committee for their
efforts.
2)
Artwork
represents a diversity of media in order to give customers a choice. Prices vary and include high end as well
as inexpensive, but attractive and well executed
items.
3)
Communication
is represented by word of mouth, mailings, free and
paid publicity, the Castle Street Business Alliance and publicized special
events. A monthly gallery
newsletter is published.
4)
Co-managers
are working to make information open to Gallery members, especially in the areas
of finance and planning.
Our
area of need focuses on improving sales and fund-raising to make the Gallery an
independent entity. It is hoped that you, as members, will be able to offer ideas
and be willing to help carry them out during the coming
year.

From the Physical
Plant
Please remember to donate Windex,
paper towels, dish detergent and toilet paper so that gallery funds do not have
to be used to purchase these items. We are also low on bubble wrap and very
large poly bags (mat board size).
From the Display
Committee
Congratulations to all our new
members! We have lots of new work
to display. For those who have unjuried work still remaining in the gallery we are asking you to
remove it by the end of this month to make room for the new merchandise. Thanks for answering the Christmas
request. If you have items you wish to sell, please asked to be considered at the
next jury process. The variety
makes the gallery a more interesting place to visit and
shop.
February 1st will be the
time to replace paintings which have been hanging 6-9
months. We will try to move the
paintings around a little more.
This will not happen all at once, but will happen gradually in the next
few months. Sometimes a new
location will give your picture a different look and help to sell the
painting. Remember, we are trying
to SELL your work, so please take time to think about your prices and the
salability of your work. The
gallery can't afford to be your display space
only.
While you are on duty at the
gallery, please look at your inventory list. Those who have more than one page, please try and consolidate information. If you have 2D and 3D, please put them
on separate pages so that the person on the desk does not have to wade through
pages of entries, trying to find the correct item. Remove old sheets and put all current
entries on a new one. Remember that
all framed work, including minis, are on the front of the page. Bin work and cards are on the back of
the sheet. If you have many cards you might want to separate those and put them under
CARDS heading.

MORE SUBS NEEDED We are down to only two
substitutes. It would be helpful to
have others on the list. If you are
willing to be on the substitute list, please notify Pat Dennis at PatD432@aol.com or call 452-0911. Remember, subs are
PAID for their time. Also, please contact Pat if you are willing to work
alone. Weekend workers are particularly
needed.
Please understand that in
order for the gallery to be productive, it cannot be
closed for lack of workers.
Barbara and Jackie ask your patience with Pat, who does such a great job
with the schedule. If for some
reason you are unable to work on a certain day, or at a
certain time, please change with another member, just as we have always done.
New Gallery members have been trained so they can get right to
work.
Please note that a list of
housekeeping chores is posted in the kitchen. This is
added to your duties on your gallery shift.
Please do not rearrange any
2D or 3D items. They have been placed where they are by the display
committee.
There is a work desk in the
window. Feel free to paint during
your shift. Passers by are
interesting to see people actually working at their
craft.
IMPORTANT! Be sure and include the name and
addresses of the purchaser on each sales receipt. This is important in case it is
necessary to contact the purchaser, as well as valuable information for the
artist and gallery.
Several Gallery Members have
work showing in special venues in the area. Bob Gera is in a
show opening January 18 at Montage' Art & Design in Leland on Highway
17. Reception Hours
6-8.
Jan
Lewis is
featured in the Boseman Gallery of the Warwick
Center Lobby in show called "Art of the New
